This past weekend I went and visited my best friend at her home in northern Virginia.  My best friend has lived in NJ, Michigan, California (if you have been with my blog for a while you'll recall my cross country trip to get to her wedding) and finally back to the east coast in Virginia.  Paul and I took the pups over for a 4 night stay.  My best friend has 2 dogs of her own, Shiba Inus, and needless to say it was a bit of a stressful weekend for both 2 legged and 4 legged creatures alike.  The biggest issue I think was the fact that her dogs felt like my 2 dogs were encroaching on their territory and felt like they had to defend it from the intruders.  In the end only one minor incident occurred though that was largely because we kept the animals on separate floors for much of the trip.  While we were down there we visited the zoo in DC which was a lot of fun.  Its wonderful that museums and zoos in DC are all free.  I took my point and shoot camera with me while my friend took her DSLR.  In the end her pictures came out more focused and clearer then mine so its a lesson learned on my part especially since I own the same DSLR as her.  Still I got some nice shots so Ill share a few.  My biggest disappointment of the trip though was the fact that while the DC zoo has pandas it does not have giraffes.  My hope was to get a few pictures of the giraffes to blow up and frame in the giraffe themsed nursery I am planning.  I have decided to make a trip this year, hopefully the summer, with Paul to the Philly Zoo which has 3 giraffes.  I am bringing my DSLR though and hopefully I will have some beautiful pictures for the nursery.

My friend's dog Loki

Her other dog Jujube

Aidan and Ellie in Ellie's kennel...I think it made them feel safe and like they were at home

Prarie Dog

Sealions Callie and Summer

Callie running

Fat lazy seals.  I was hoping to see those cute adorable little ones and instead we got treated to these 2.  We didn't even see them as they look like rocks that's how big they were. Beleive it or not the one that looks like a shadow is also a seal...a really big lazy seal

I forget what kind of bear this was but I got it right before it ducked inside

This anteater is carrying its baby on its back!

Bald Eagle

I got a lot of these 2 lionesses

The zoo had a baby gorilla but all my photos were blurry. I did m,nage to get this orangutan in this funny position though

The gibbons were adorable

Lazy piggies though they were labeled as something else with a P that wasn't pigs

Meerkat

This is some kind of tamarin. They move super fast so this was the best shot I got of them

They only had 1 red panda because the other one is pregnant!

Elephant

This is the daddy Panda.  He actually moved quite a bit while we were there

This was the mommy panda.  Baby panda was also sleeping but in his den so you could just see him but it was too hard to take a picture

A fishing cat!

Cheetah

Some kind of elk

And a wolf that looks like my friends dogs.  You can just see his ears in this shot

All in all a great trip though next time the zoo better have giraffes!!!

I've got a friend who has 3 Shibas. I love them. They're soooo cute, it makes me want one. And I'm not a dog person. lol. We've got 2 cats but I would get a Shiba. teehee.

I love going to the zoo! I'm thinking about making hubby go to the zoo with me tomorrow because we have today and tomorrow off for the 4th. We'd go today but I've got class tonight. boo. But if we go and they have giraffes, I'm taking a picture for you. :)

@i_do_may07 -

Shibas are a lot like cats actually...aloof and only interested in coming to you on their terms. They are nice dogs but I do think they arent for everyone as there are a few issues that come with them

Aww thanks for that. I would love to see your giraffe pic!
